Summer’s coming and City pools are hiring lifeguards

Are you looking for a meaningful summer job that lets you stay active, work outdoors, and make a difference in your community? Look no further. The Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks is actively recruiting more than 150 lifeguards and aquatic staff as it prepares to expand pool access across the city this summer.

Ready, Set, Hire: Aquatics Recruitment Day

The citys annual "Ready, Set, Hire" aquatics recruitment event will take place on Saturday, March 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Middle Branch Fitness and Wellness Center. Here, teens and adults alike can meet with staff, participate in interviews, and even take an in-pool skills assessment all part of Baltimores effort to prepare its public pools for a safe, well-staffed summer.

New Pools, New Opportunities

With four new City pools expected to open in 2025, the need for reliable and certified personnel is greater than ever. Positions include:

  • Lifeguards (minimum age 15; starting at $16/hr)

  • Swimming Pool Operators Oversee day-to-day pool operations

  • Community Aides Help maintain safety, cleanliness, and support for pool guests

A Word from Aquatics Leadership

Were encouraging people to come out on March 22, even if you havent passed the certification yet, said Nikki Cobbs, Chief of Aquatics at the Baltimore City Department of Recreation & Parks.

We are serious about helping Baltimore teens discover their love of swimming and lifeguarding and make a positive impact in their communities.

Free Lifeguard Training & The Lifeguard Club

Those who commit to working with the Aquatics Division this summer are eligible for free lifeguard training and certification, courtesy of the departments Lifeguard Club.

This unique peer-to-peer program is designed to help aspiring lifeguards especially teens gain confidence and improve their swimming and lifesaving skills in a supportive, judgement-free environment. The club:

  • Meets at multiple recreation centers on weekdays and weekends

  • Offers coaching and mentorship from experienced lifeguards

  • Prepares participants for the American Lifeguard USA Lifeguard Certification

Certification Clinics will be held April 1417 at:

  • Callowhill Recreation Center (Standard Lifeguard Certification)

  • Middle Branch Fitness and Wellness Center (Shallow Water Lifeguards)

  • Your birth certificate

  • A work permit if under 18

  • State-issued ID, passport, or report card

  • Your American Lifeguard USA Lifeguard Certification, if already obtained
